Artists Needed For Imaginative Outdoor Public Sculpture

Deadline: 4:00 p.m., February 15

Who: All Sculptors may apply. Sculptors with experience working with steel are a plus.

Description: The Arkansas Art Foundation (AAF) is sponsoring a public art project in Argenta, the historic heart of North Little Rock, Arkansas. The multi-year public art project of commissioned art will include a sculpture or sculptures designed to be permanently installed to create a signature piece that will be the first of a series of canine themed works in the downtown area. The playful sculptures are intended to turn the old nickname "dogtown" into a fun, whimsical asset.

Process: The art work is site specific. The site is located in the grassy strip along Main Street at the southwest corner of Main and Broadway streets. The work shall use the materials and methods donated to the Argenta Downtown Council. The materials include 8' x 22' x 3/4 inch [A36] steel. Methods include: plasma torch cutting and fabrication donated by Union Pacific Railroad and powder coating and installation by the Argenta Downtown Council.

Interested artists shall submit a preliminary drawing to scale on 11x17 inch paper. A maximum of 4 sheets of paper shall be used to illustrate the concept and design. Please include dimensions keeping in mind the structural constraints of the donated material. Include basic biographical information and a history of recent activities related to your art career. Travel expenses will be negotiated with the ADC and will be paid in addition to the fee for the design.

Commission: Please indicate the desired commission for the design in a separate sealed envelope.
Review: The Argenta Downtown Council Public Arts Committee will review all preliminaries and determine the finalists for a second round. The finalists will supply a scaled model of the artwork and will be paid $100 for the scale model. Those selected as finalists will be notified no later than March 30 and interviewed by the ADC Arts Committee.

The ADC shall own and retain complete usage of the artwork.
